Builder confidence in the market for newly built, single-family homes gained one point in June from a slightly revised level in the previous month to rest at 29 on the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI), released today. This is the highest level the index has attained since May of 2007.

Effective Saturday, June 30, SANDAG will cut tolls for using State Route 125/South Bay Expressway by as much as 40 percent.
Savings for customers enrolled in the FasTrak electronic tolling system will be especially dramatic. New tolls will range from 50 cents to $2.75 for FasTrak users and from $2 to $3.50 for cash and credit card users. Current tolls are 85 cents to $3.85 for FasTrak users and $2.50 to $4 for cash and credit card users.

Otay Water District’s Board of Directors unanimously voted to appoint Mitch Thompson to fill the vacancy that resulted from the resignation of board member Jaime Bonilla. Oakland, Calif.-based Silverado Contractors Inc. has been hired to demolish the above-ground structures of the non-operating South Bay Power Plant in Chula Vista.
Dynegy South Bay Inc., which operates and owns the South Bay Power Plant, said it selected the demolition contractor based on its “qualifications, favorable pricing and the overall merits of its proposal.”

As the ailing U.S. economy crawls to recovery, some local business owners in Eastlake have seized the opportunity to grow their businesses through innovative technology and good-old-fashioned networking.
The Eastlake Networking Group is a brand new group started by business professionals in Eastlake. It was formed to help small and large businesses make connections and generate referrals. The group meets every week on Monday’s at Tacos & Tarros in the Otay Ranch Town Center. Meetings start at 11:30am and last till about 12:30pm. All business owners are encouraged to come out and there is no membership fee for joining.

Store owners offer deeply discounted shipping and materials in exchange for cold weather donations
San Diego, CA — November 30, 2011 — Two local The UPS Store owners are serving an extra dose of holiday merriment at their five locations while helping to ensure the area’s most destitute individuals and families are kept warm during the region’s coldest season. Now through December 25, 2011, customers who bring in a new or gently used cold weather apparel item, including beanies, socks, gloves and scarves, can benefit from having their shipments expertly packed and save 25 percent off packaging and discounts on Air shipping. The wares will be distributed via winter survival backpacks to displaced San Diegans by Girls Think Tank (GTT), a nonprofit that empowers the community to advance basic dignity through advocacy and activism.
