Henry’s Eastlake Merges & Becomes Sprouts Farmers Market in Eastlake
The merger of Sprouts Farmers Market and Henry’s Farmers Market/Sun Harvest Farmers Market is now complete – reuniting two companies that were founded years apart by the Boney Family of San Diego.
Together, there are over 7,000 employees and operating more than 100 stores throughout Arizona, California, Colorado and Texas under the Sprouts Farmers Market name.
The merger reunites two natural food stores that were originally founded by the same family. Henry’s and Sprouts, in fact, are so similar that shoppers frequently mistake one for the other. Under the merger, Apollo Management, which owns Henry’s and Smart & Final, will be the majority owner of Sprouts. The Boney family started the first generation of Henry’s stores as fruit stands in San Diego in 1943. The family sold Henry’s in 1999 to Wild Oats Markets. In 2007, Whole Foods Market purchased Wild Oats and sold the Henry’s segment to Smart & Final Holdings Corp.
Sprouts will have 98 stores in the Western U.S. with annual revenue of more than $1 billion.
According to the old Henry’s website: Soon, you’ll be directed to Sprouts.com to find specials and much more. In fact, in the coming months, we will launch a redesigned website on Sprouts.com to make it much easier for you to navigate through locations, weekly and monthly ads, recipes, food tips, health information and even coupons.
What does this merger mean for you?
• It will bring a greater variety of fresh, interesting products to your store.
• Prices may get even better, as our combined buying power should allow us to find some efficiencies in purchasing and distribution.
• There will be new stores, and the job opportunities that come with them.
• It will result in improved operations, as we identify and incorporate the best practices of each company.
